How the birthday countdown works
- It takes your birthday in the current year. If that date has passed, it uses next year’s.
- It counts the days from today: today is not counted, your birthday is.
- The age you turn is the birthday’s year minus your birth year.

Why your birthday moves one weekday each year
A common year has 365 days, which is 52 weeks and 1 day. So your birthday falls one weekday later each year – and two days later when February 29 comes in between.

Born on February 29?
Leap-day birthdays come round only every four years (with exceptions such as 2100, which is not a leap year). In other years most people celebrate on February 28, some on March 1. This countdown uses February 28; in many countries, legal birthdays in common years fall on March 1.
Birthday facts worth knowing
- Half birthday – exactly 6 months after your birthday.
- Golden birthday – when you turn the age of your birth day number, such as turning 15 on the 15th.
