What counts as a business day?
A business day (working day) is any day that is not:
- a weekend day for your country or workplace, or
- a public or company holiday.

Weekend rules change over time and differ between employers, so pick the option that matches your own calendar.
Tips for accurate counts
- Only count holidays that fall on working days. A holiday on a Saturday is already excluded as a weekend day.
- Check your counting rule. Many deadlines (“within 10 business days”) start the day after the start date – choose “Only days in between” or “Start date, not end date”.
- Regional holidays matter. The country lists cover national holidays only; add state, provincial and company days under “Other days off”.

Frequently asked questions
How many business days are in a year?
With a Saturday–Sunday weekend a year has 260 or 261 weekdays (262 in some leap years). Take off your public holidays – often 8 to 15 days – for the real number of working days.
How many business days are in a month?
Usually 20 to 23 weekdays, depending on the month and the weekday it starts on. The table above lists every month of this year.
Are public holidays excluded automatically?
Yes, when you choose a country under Public Holidays: the United States, India, the United Kingdom, Canada or Australia. National holidays are left out, including observed days when a holiday falls on a weekend. Add regional or company holidays under “Other days off”.
What date is 10 business days from today?
Choose “Date after a number of business days”, keep today as the start date and enter 10. The start date is not counted, so the count begins with the next working day.
Does “within 5 business days” include today?
Usually not – the count starts on the next working day. Choose “Only days in between” or “Start date, not end date” to match the rule you were given.
Is Saturday a business day?
In most countries no, but it can be for banks, shops or six-day working weeks. Choose “Sunday only” as the weekend to count Saturdays as working days.
