How to use the love calculator
- Type your name and the name of the person you like. First names work best, but full names are fine.
- Press Calculate to see your love percentage and a heart that fills to match.
- Read the working underneath: every letter that was counted is listed, so you can check the score yourself.
How the TRUE LOVE game works
This is the name game people have played on paper for generations. Write both names together, then:
- Count how many times the letters T, R, U and E appear in the two names, and add them up. That is the first digit.
- Count the letters L, O, V and E the same way. That is the second digit.
- Put the two digits side by side to get the percentage. If a total is 10 or more, add its digits together (12 becomes 1 + 2 = 3).
ROMEO JULIET has T × 1, R × 1, U × 1 and E × 2, so TRUE scores 5. It has L × 1, O × 2, V × 0 and E × 2, so LOVE scores 5. Side by side: 55%.
Because the two names are simply joined, swapping them gives the same score. Accents are ignored (José counts as JOSE), and only the letters A–Z count.
Is the love calculator accurate?
No – and it isn’t meant to be. The score depends only on which letters are in two names, so it says nothing real about a relationship. Treat it as a bit of fun to share with friends. For another classic name game, try FLAMES; to compare birthdays, look up your zodiac signs.
Frequently asked questions
How does the love calculator work?
It plays the TRUE LOVE name game: the letters T, R, U and E in both names give the first digit, and L, O, V and E give the second. The two digits together are the love percentage.
Does the order of the names matter?
No. The names are joined before the letters are counted, so you get the same score either way round.
Is the love percentage real?
No – it is a game based only on letters, just for fun. It cannot predict a real relationship.
Can I use full names or nicknames?
Yes. Any name works, but each spelling gives a different score – first names are what most people use.
Why do I get 0%?
If the names have none of the letters T, R, U, E, L, O or V, both counts are 0. Try a full name or a different spelling.
