Frequently asked questions

How much is $75,000 a year after taxes?

For a single filer with no state tax in 2026: about $61,593 a year, or $2,368.94 every two weeks – after $7,670 federal income tax and $5,737.50 Social Security and Medicare.

What is the standard deduction for 2026?

$16,100 for single filers, $32,200 for married couples filing jointly and $24,150 for heads of household.

What percentage of my paycheck goes to taxes?

Social Security and Medicare take 7.65%. Federal income tax depends on your income: on $75,000 single it is about 10% of pay overall, even though the top bracket is 22%.

Does a 401(k) lower my taxes?

A traditional 401(k) lowers your federal (and most state) income tax, because it comes out before tax. Social Security and Medicare are still charged on it.

What is the Social Security wage base for 2026?

$184,500. Wages above that pay no 6.2% Social Security tax, but Medicare continues on all wages.

Why is my real paycheck a little different?

Your employer withholds using your W-4 and the IRS tables, which spread credits, extra withholding and other income differently. This calculator estimates your yearly tax and divides it evenly across paychecks.
